Official Policy
Library Rules & Regulations
All NDU Library members must adhere to the following rules to ensure a conducive learning environment for everyone.
Library Membership
A valid NDU Library ID Card is required to borrow books. Cards are issued exclusively by the Library Admin. Students must present their card when borrowing physical books.
Borrowing Period
Books may be borrowed for a maximum of 14 days (two weeks). This applies to both physical and online (ebook) borrowing. Loans may be renewed up to 2 times online, provided the book is not overdue.
Overdue Fines
A fine of ₦100 per day is charged for every day a physical book is overdue past its due date. Fines accrue daily and must be paid before borrowing again. Unpaid fines will result in borrowing privileges being suspended.
Online Book Access
Online ebooks are accessible directly within the library portal. Access is granted for 14 days per borrow. Some ebooks are free; others require a one-time payment or are limited by copy count — similar to physical books. Access is automatically revoked after the borrowing period.
Conduct & Silence
Silence must be maintained in the reading hall at all times. Mobile phones must be on silent mode. Food and drinks are not permitted in the library. Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the library premises.
Book Care & Damage
Borrowers are responsible for the condition of borrowed books. Writing in, tearing, defacing, or losing a library book will result in the student being charged the full replacement cost plus a ₦500 processing fee.
Reservations
Books can be reserved online when all copies are checked out. Reserved books must be collected within 3 days of being made available, after which the reservation expires and the copy is released to the next patron.
Borrowing Limits
Students may borrow a maximum of 3 physical books at a time. Staff members may borrow up to 5. Reference materials, theses, and rare books are available for in-library use only and cannot be taken out.
Opening Hours
The physical library is open Monday–Friday: 8:00am–8:00pm and Saturday: 10:00am–6:00pm. The online portal is accessible 24/7. Library services are suspended on Sundays and public holidays.
